Northern Edge Algonquin is honoured to announce that we are the recipient of the 2010 Ontario Tourism Award of Excellence for Sustainable Tourism, presented at the Ontario Tourism Awards Gala on November 8, 2010.
The Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence celebrate leadership, innovation, and excellence within Ontario’s tourism industry. The awards gala took place as part of the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation (OTMPC) Tourism Summit, held this year at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario.
Recognition for Sustainable Tourism Leadership
Northern Edge Algonquin was awarded the Industry Award of Excellence in Sustainable Tourism, recognizing businesses that demonstrate outstanding commitment to sustainability in their day-to-day operations and guest experiences.
Northern Edge Algonquin was commended for:
- Building and operating a solar-powered, off-grid nature retreat
- Demonstrating long-term commitment to sustainable business practices
- Creating programs that reconnect visitors with the environment and community
- Developing innovative partnerships, including the Bike Train collaboration and the Rails, Trails, and Ales experience
This recognition was awarded following a nomination process, with Northern Edge Algonquin selected as the winner in the Sustainable Tourism category.

The award was accepted in person by co-founders Todd and Martha Lucier, who acknowledged the dedicated team, partners, and community members who have contributed to the evolution of Northern Edge Algonquin over the past 15 years.

Receiving the Ontario Tourism Award of Excellence for Sustainable Tourism is a meaningful milestone in our journey. It affirms our belief that tourism can — and should — be a force for environmental stewardship, community connection, and long-term resilience.
