This year, Ontario and Canada have both introduced new Signature Experience programs designed to spotlight the very best, most immersive travel experiences available — and Rails, Trails, and Ales at Northern Edge Algonquin has been recognized as part of this movement.
These initiatives mark an important shift in how travel is being promoted: away from destinations alone, and toward distinct, bookable experiences that invite visitors to connect more deeply with place, culture, and landscape.
What Are Ontario Signature Experiences?
The Ontario Signature Experiences program was launched by Ontario’s provincial tourism leadership to identify and support a curated collection of travel experiences that represent the best of what the province has to offer.
Rather than focusing solely on locations, the program highlights immersive, multi-day experiences that are uniquely Ontario — experiences that are ready for both domestic and international travellers and that tell a compelling story about place.
Signature Experiences are selected based on criteria such as:
- Authentic connection to Ontario’s landscapes and culture
- A strong, well-designed guest experience
- Market-readiness and bookability
- Alignment with Ontario’s long-term tourism strategy

Canada’s Signature Experiences: A National Collection
Building on provincial initiatives like Ontario’s, Destination Canada developed the Canadian Signature Experiences collection — a national portfolio of travel experiences that are considered must-do for visitors to Canada.
These experiences are used to help tell Canada’s story globally, particularly in international markets where travellers are seeking meaningful, transformative, and place-based travel.
According to Destination Canada, Signature Experiences are:
“Once-in-a-lifetime travel experiences that embody the best of what Canada has to offer.”

Rails, Trails, and Ales was designed from the beginning as an experience — not just a stay.
